After leaving Enid, it was
off to Little Rock AFB for three-and-a-half years in the C-130.
I loved flying the “Herk”! I
was then “volunteered” by MPC to be a T-37 Instructor for four years at
Williams AFB in the Phoenix area. After
ATC, it was definitely time to get back to the “Herk”.
This time it was a Special Ops MC-130P to RAF Woodbridge, England.
Loved England; a wonderful four-and-a-half year assignment!
Then it was off to Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio and the Special
Operations System Program Office to be Deputy Program Manager of the MC-130H
Combat Talon II program. It was
great being close to our families in Northern Kentucky for four years.
Following that, we moved to HQ Air Force Special Operations Command at
Hurlburt Field, Florida in the Destin/Ft Walton Beach.
I have been here forever, eventually becoming the command DOO.
After 28 years, I retired in March 2002, showing up the very next week
still in DO at HQ AFSOC. I’m
now working on my second federal government retirement as a GS working
cooperative engagements with War On Terror coalition Special Ops units.
My theater is EUCOM, so I spend about a week each month in Europe and
North Africa. Life’s tough!
Janelle worked for about ten
years here in commercial real estate and neighborhood association management. I think she’s now retired!
(She’s currently recovering from rather extensive leg surgery.)
She stays busy doing stained glass and needlework.
Our oldest son, Roy III lives
in Beavercreek (Dayton area) Ohio. He’s
married to our daughter-in-law Amy and they have Catherine Isabelle (Catie)
our 16-month old granddaughter. She’s
great fun! Roy is a geodetic
scientist working on a contract for the National Geospatial Intelligence
Agency developing digital mapping databases from aerial and satellite imagery.
Our
youngest son Chris graduated from the CIA (Culinary Institute of America, not
the Central Intelligence Agency) and has worked in New Orleans, Florida, and
Seattle. He is currently the
Executive Chef at the Evergreen Restaurant in Sun Valley, Idaho.
He tries to ski, both downhill and cross-country, whenever possible.
